Thoughts on Voting
Today, May 8th, I spent all day out meeting voters first at a Cinco de Mayo celebration and then at a large backyard barbeque. Everyone was very gracious and commented how well they liked my ideas and speech. It was a long day but rewarding insofar as I got to meet so many people. One thing that repeated itself was an attitude about voting — many people said they don’t because it is “too political.” Are they referring to the name calling and one upmanship that is evident at times during an election period? Do they feel that persons running for office will promise them anything for their vote — with no intention of following through? Do they feel so secure in their communities that they are comfortable to allow others to make the decisions for them?
I encourage everyone to be involved. Reach out in your communities. There are some really great people living just down the street — don’t miss them! Government is only as good as the least person served. It’s not the office holders who make government good. It’s the people who elect them to the office and the people who voted against them. Sometimes its the ones who vote against us that make us want to be better than we thought we could be. I encourage everyone to look at the candidates in every race and push us to be everything you need us to be — You’re the boss! If the whole ballot seems to much, pick an issue, pick a race, and help to make your communities everything they should be…
