Accountability
“Accountability is the cornerstone of all financial reporting in government.” GASB Concept Statement No. 1
Being the very thing that holds all governmental accounting and reporting together Accountability requires timely and accurate reports that communicate to you, the electorate, not only what was collected in resources (think taxes and fees) but also why and what it is being used for. In addition governmental accounting focuses on the collection and use of funds from a legislative, contractual, and budgetary angle.
As Auditor I am committed to bringing before the people timely reports of resources with emphasis on actual and proposed uses. These reports along with the Efficiency & Effectiveness information will serve to allow you, the voter, and your elected officials and department heads to see in a timely fashion the effects of the economy on the proposed budgetary objectives. Currently there is an annual report that is available approximately six months after the year end. I would propose to produce interim reports on a quarterly basis with projections to year end and special recognition for major capital projects and repairs, and major programs.
